When it starts, open up and see if there's fire in the pot. My conclusion is, you can't cook unless you stay with it and keep spreading the pellets out. to me it is Pit Boss hopper design as my Yoder the pellets do not stop they continue to feed to the auger you do not have to stir them or move them over to the auger. Like others, even though you said that it was going to blow, it still startled me when it did. Nope! I open the sear panel and the firepot was filled with wood pellets ( Pit Boss Hickory).

My pit boss just exploded on video! I looked in the hopper and there were plenty of pellets but a void had formed over the auger, so no pellets were feeding in. I figured out that I didn’t preform the required Preheating Procedures and I just went and plugged in the grill and dialed in my desired temp... ie.. Set it and Forget it... Big Mistake.. I removed the meat and closed the cover. and let the grills temp settle and stabilize. From reading your post, the problem was with your preheating procedures/steps. So I found out what's causing my flame outs. Given all the air being pumped into a pellet grill pot, it only takes a very, very small amount of powder to create an explosion like this, if the pellets have pulverized. I'm having the same issue with my Pro 1100. I have only had 2 flame outs on my Pit Boss Pellet Grill. and once the grills temps settles and stabilizes at a solid 300* degrees, then I could set my grill to my desired temp after that. Will keep updating this thread. The title TOLD me it was going to explode....I jumped a bit anyway. PB hoppers especially the Pro Series the hopper channel is not steep enough it is too wide. Pellets continue to feed, cup full and overflowing so I dont believe that ismy issue.

Then I put the pork on and closed the door and let it run for a couple of hours until this happened. I turned the unit to off and the temp select to off. It may happen at any time during the cook, whether during the process of coming up to temperature or even after it has been at 225º F. for hours. Also, ensure the pellets in the hopper are flowing through the Auger Tube and into the fire pot smoothly. Good luck and I’m sure You’ll figure out what happened. On start up the door has to be open to let out the fumes, that's what happens when you don't. MY WSM with a DigiQ is as set it and forget it as I need.

We had a pit boss 820 that did that a few times on a bit more grander scale, had previously changed out the electronics, igniter and sensor to no avail. Glad you're ok. When I went to check on the grill I noticed the temp less than 100 and could not figure out what was wrong. My new whiskey still doesn't have a P but wish it did. Checked the grill, blower was running and temperature was dropping. My old 700FB does and works great. Something as simple as not preheating your grill correctly each and every time can cause flameouts to happen. the ignitor turns off after startup. I simply turned it off then back on and it started up. if the flame goes out only a restart will ignite more pellets. It started to bellow out thick smoke. Once it's lit it should stay. Holy hell, I jumped watching that video.

Kinda makes it hard to use, tbh. First things first, you’ll want to use an outdoor extension cord to plug the pellet grill into an electrical outlet. Watch cheap pellets. My KC Combo hopper is the same. I always start it up the same way.

I have read where a high P setting can cause flame outs but 6 is the highest i have evet ran min for more than a few minutes, not sure what could be damaged to the unit when the gas cooks off like that but a clean set of shorts might be needed if I wasn’t expecting it, 1 of the other manufacturer have a relite feature and not sure how it works but looking at all the smoke it makes on start up not sure how they deal with that. I removed the meat and finished it off in the oven. This is an independent, unofficial enthusiast run site dedicated to Pit Boss owners that share the same passion as we do. Yup, that's exactly what I described in my post above, and the explosion looks very much like the flour explosion. The first time was a power surge that cut the power off. I did an overnight cook and when I checked it the next morning, the grill was at zero degrees and had to throw the meat out. It is entirely uncertain to me whether the flame will stay bitter lit. My Pit Boss frequently experiences flameouts during the cooking process. We were in the backyard and did not realize it had gone out.

I would next time dial in your P-setting and wait for the pellets to ignite with the lid open, then once the ignition has started, I would preheat at 300*-350* degrees for a minimum 20-30 mins. It exploded before I could shut it down. You must log in or register to reply here.

It appears to happen around the 4th hour of operation with the temperature set at 225. No idea why it did it but looks like you were expecting it seeing as you were videoing ? As per the Owners Manual, turn the grill on first and set it on P4 and the Smoke setting with the lid open and wait til the ignition has started, then I needed to preheat at a minimum 300* degrees for 20-30 mins.

They needed to make the hopper taller with more of a steeper angle inside the box that allows the pellets to fall to the auger. Open the lid, put it on smoke, let it run until the the smoke clears and the fire is burning hot, then close the lid and set it to temp. The grill gets cleaned after every cook because I usually use a wood burning diffuser now. Perhaps shortening to auger off time from 115 seconds to 100 seconds helped keep a flame in the fire pot??? Why do you automatically assume that?!?! I always say, Never take short cuts in the proper preheating procedures and operation of any Pellet Grill. Post your hints, tips, tricks & techniques, success, failures, but stay on topic and watch for that hijacking. People always clean the Burn Pot but how often do they clean the auger/feed chute.? I never saw a need for one. We were in the backyard and did not realize it had gone out. Wow. It did not appear to be burning. I was about 2 hours into the cook when I noticed billowing smoke coming out of my pit boss. Like I read above, it happens no sooner than 3 hours into the cook. From what I read in your posting, You just turned your grill on and set the temp to 250* degrees for 30mins. Post your hints, tips, tricks & techniques, success, failures, but stay on topic and watch for that hijacking.
