I recommend them. Not heavy. Providing a lightweight yet comfy ride is the shoe’s compression-molded EVA midsole. I ordered a 9 and it's perfect - like this shoe was designed especially for my feet! My feet never felt hot or heavy even with a pack on the trail. Merrell has always been a good go to shoe for me as I have a lot of foot issues. Just a great pair of socks (like Thurlos) and you're set.

I like the shoe very much. Granted, I have yet to take a loooong hike in them but they fit my feet great. My new go to hikers! The toe box is ample but the heel fit is snug. It is well padded and has a good arch support. These shoes are comfortable and go up to the ankle. I do a lot of walking in Florida and during hot weather in Virginia.

I'm very pleased. My feet are quite different, one is 2 sizes shorter and 1 size wider than the other so I generally buy shoes to fit the longer foot and make do. No breaking in necessary and great support. This shoe is lightweight and so comfortable. I wear my Merrells for both trail & street walking on my morning hikes with my cocker.

According to several users, its rubber outsole delivered excellent traction. © 2009–2020 - Zappos.com LLC or its affiliates. I have one bad foot (tendon problems mean I need crazy good arch support) and the other is just a little wider in the forefoot...and I have skinny heels so shoes slide off.

(I have just one foot that is a wide...the other is medium width.) They are my go-to shoe for both winter and summer. I wear these Merrell Alverstone hiking boots on morning hikes with my dog on rural trails. Cradling the user’s foot for enhanced comfort is the Kinetic Fit Base insole. I haven't wore the hiking yet, but I have put them through the rigors of two, 12-hour shifts in my Emergency Department to break them in, and they preformed well. To summarize, getting the Merrell Alverstone may require replacing its laces to optimize and perfect its trail performance. We'd love to learn more about your shopping experiences on Zappos.com and how we can improve! The comfort and style of this shoe PLUS the totally reasonable price out way the couple minor issues that i mentioned. Love it! Those who like a spacious forefoot and flexible footgear will surely enjoy its confines too. I would, and probably will, purchase again. at 80.00 it was a great price too. Wish they came in a wide, but the medium width is wider than other Merrell styles. I kept looking for another Merrell style that would be closer to the original Sport Siren and I FINALLY FOUND IT with this Alverstone.

$53.25 - $182.40. They were just ok in the heavy rain; but more importantly they were a little too snug on the left side near my small toes - especially after getting very wet a few times. Over the past 20 years, he has climbed, hiked, and ran all over the world. Overall, they are very comfortable, even with a full backpack. These shoes are amazing—the only hiking shoes I’ve ever tried (and there have been A LOT of shoes go through this house) that I don’t have to add anything to—no arch, no insole, no nothing! 14 % 3 Rated 3 stars out of 5. 6 % 1 Rated 1 stars out of 5. I feel like I really scored with these shoes. I purchased a pair of more sneaker like Merrells about a year ago, and I have been pretty pleased with them. Truly exactly as they are described.

I wore them the first day they arrived to go on a walk with the husband and our dog - while I am limited due to knee pain, my feet were certainly comfy. So light weight and super comfortable. I recommend that you give them a try! They are so comfortable that I decided if I needed, I would buy a second pair. $59.99 - $195.00.

But the ARCH SUPPORT! It is comfortable, size is right and the width. They are comfortable and have great support. Have a hard time finding good walking and hiking shoes. A big bunion on one foot and metatarsitis. Price a little high, but worth it. There was no break-in period at all.

They looked better than the other 2 models and were more comfortable, particularly around the ankle. Inside are a mesh lining and the brand-owned M Select Fresh antimicrobial treatment which enhances ventilation and prevents the development of odor, respectively. These shoes are lightweight, extremely comfortable, and even accommodate the lift in my shoe without making me feel like my foot is coming out of the shoe.

The shoes run a little small, so I had to reorder a half size larger than usual. The proprietary M Select Grip outsole with 5-millimeter deep boots makes the Alverstone bite into ground surfaces. My heels settle into cradles for more support. I love these hiking boots. If you have worn the original Merrrell's "Sport Siren" hiking shoes (before they changed the fit and styling to it's present day version) and loved the old comfort, appearance, feel & fit as I had, you will LOVE the Alverstone. TWO-FER: have snow/cold/waterproof boot. I feel safer walking in these boots.

These were quite comfortable right out of the box. Everything I owned became very uncomfortable after a few miles - sneakers, walking shoes, etc. The arch supports are such that I can actually feel something under my high arches, - a rare delight! This affordable hiking shoe from Merrell earned generally positive feedback from the hiking community. I normally wear a 9, sometimes 9.5 depending on the shoe/brand. I purchased these boots before a vacation in the mountains. I was a little concerned at first because the high-top is stiff, but then again, one reason I bought them was for the extra ankle support. I accidentally wore them for ten hours straight on the first day and they were marvelous. And I love Zappos too for their speedy delivery and easy to return policy!

The blue styling is relatively feminine, but not overstated.

I feel like I can hike/walk for miles and my feet will be fine. Solid shoes, not a lot of flex, but roomy inside (even for a wide foot). They're a good color and they are lightweight. It has great traction.

No break in period. I really like these boots.

I have had surgery on my foot for plantar fasciitis so I know to wear good shoes with support. We earn commissions when you buy through us. Like with most Merrells, I get 1/2 size larger.

$93.26 - $208.21. No break in required. The Merrell Alverstone is a fairly true-to-size low-cut hiking shoe for men and women.

Highly recommend.

Very pleased with these Merrell Alverstone hiking shoes. If your foot is slightly on the wide side (say a "C" width) these will fit perfectly. Merrell’s Air Cushion is placed at the heel area to optimize shock absorption, especially upon heel strike.

I bought this style of Merrell [Alverstone] after wearing the Merrell Moab Ventilator for many years. I have plantar fasciitis in one foot. No more black toenails from smashing toes against the front of my shoe (yes, lacing the shoestrings correctly helps also). The heel tab facilitates easy on and off. Gives great support and grip on uneven surfaces. Lighter than many boots, easy to get on, and I like the mid-cut for stability.

Its sticky rubber compound employs aggressive lugs for traction. He has been quoted in NYMag, NBCNews, and Business Insider to name a few. I am super picky about my shoes. I think wool socks would work well to help keep feet comfy during a long trek. Seriously can't say enough good things about these shoes. Third times a charm with these Merrell Alverstone hiking boots.

Its flexibility earned praises from a few owners. Comfortable and sturdy. These provide great support. I bought these because my husband and I started taking very long walks (5 miles+) every morning to avoid crowds - after the stay at home order started in March.

This rubber-like material cushions each step and adds stability. I’m in heaven.

Merrell Men's Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe 4.6 out of 5 stars 9,092 # 1 Best Seller in Men's Hiking Shoes.

I have been dealing with terrible knees for years...I am currently waiting to have a second total knee replacement. Put them on and didn't want to take them off anymore, very surprised and love them. I was so hesitant to wear them to my classroom - I teach ceramics and didn't want to get them dirty just yet. The first few times I wore them they were a bit stiff, but then after subsequent wears they were perfect. Recommend it.

12 % 4 Rated 4 stars out of 5. Immediate comfort was granted by this shoe, as observed by a handful. 0 % 2 Rated 2 stars out of 5.

Bought these along with the Merrell Moab 2 Mid and Chameleon 7 and these were the definite winner.

These shoes are wonderful - even by Merrell standards which are really high. Truly the best fitting, most comfortable trail shoes I've ever owned. I first looked at the Merrell Alverstone because of the outstanding reviews - and I am happy to say I can add to the collection. They are mostly for a hiking trip to Australia, but I expect to be wearing them for more than that during winter here on the east coast. Its extension at the front and back, on the other hand, amplifies protection.

He’s summited peaks throughout the Americas, trekked through Africa, and tested his endurance in 24-hour trail races. In my opinion, Merrill’s are the best for walking/hiking! I've just ordered a second pair as a back-up. Will be keeping these shoes! Much better than I expected.

I have plantar fasciitis and these shoes work well for me. I would buy another pair in a heartbeat. I wish they came a bit wider, but it was o.k.

Wore these shoes for the first time on a several hour hike through wet/slippery trails and they held up great! I am returning this size 9.5 for a 9. I have had issues with plantar fasciitis for years, so I need good arch support. I normally take 7.5 but recently have had some difficulties with the Moab 2 as the width does not feel as wide as prior years. I have a medium width 8.5 size foot and I hope this shoe lasts and lasts. However, it seems that its default laces were a cause of disappointment. Under the foot, it comes with an EVA midsole and Kinetic Fit Base Insole. Wanted something compatible for summer. It has a narrow heel grip so it’s comfortable there too. Wore them straight out of the box for an entire day of yard work and hiking. Overall, they are very comfortable, even with a full backpack. They’re not going to win a beauty contest, but they’re fine casual shoes with jeans or leggings. If you need good support, a roomy toe area and no sliding on your heels these are for you! 2 wasnt the same for me [a story for another day] Feels good right out of the box.

Great for hiking rocky terrain. Walked a lot already and seem to be perfect.

I decided to switch from Brooks running shoes to hiking boots for backpacking trips. Support is good also.

Really comfortable and good on the trail. Well padded keeps foot safe & comfortable. When I wear these shoes I have no pain! It is offered in regular sizes and medium width. My only complaint is that my feet get a little hot, but that is to be expected with a well cusioned, waterproof hiking boot. The fit, arch support and appearance is as close to my old favorite as I think I will find - it was a total winner for me. I have a narrow heal, somewhat wide ball and a high arch.

They had more cushion than the Moab and are much more comfortable. This mesh foot cover makes the overall boot extremely light way. Stylish enough to rock around the city.Rugged enough for the trails.

They fit great from the first time I put them on !!!! Merrell Alverstone; Review Summary; Customer Reviews Merrell AlverstoneWrite a Review.

I have always found Merrells to be supportive and comfortable.

SO grateful for a company that "gets" customer service. Like the arch support and fit on my old feet that have issues with a bunion and hammer toe.
