It was a small lighthouse that eventually guided me back: jutting out into Maine’s Cutler Harbor, a stubby green-and-white tower that served as a reminder that I needed to turn back for home. Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge: One of the oldest National Wildlife Refuges, the Moosehorn offers over 50 miles of dirt roads and trails between Edmunds and Calais for hiking and biking, 3 self-guided interpretive trails, and opportunities to tour with wildlife biologists. Roosevelt Campobello International Park: Located on Campobello Island in New Brunswick, Canada, this international park features President Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt’s summer home, and celebrates the friendship between Canada and the United States. There’s lot of board walks too where it’s muddy- it made the hike really fun! Hands down the most beautiful place int he States. We did our hike in tennis shoes and managed not to have them covered in it.

It’s a bold idea, indeed, but if you can slow down enough to do it, you may just discover that there are still vacation spots where you truly can still get away. Try to come during high tide when the waves are really crashing. great hike along the coastal bluff, may see whales or seals its a long trail and difficult in sections. We noticed that most groups skipped this part of the trail and simply re-traced their steps back to the parking lot when they were done at the outlook.This part of the hike has some ups and downs, and some areas are slippery so watch your step. Our phones actually thought we were in Canada so we turned them off while we were hiking to avoid getting gouged by our cell providers. Hiking in, we saw no one. I have never seen scenery like I did here. The cliffs overlook area makes for a great picnic spot with some nice flat spots to sit.It is a worthwhile hike to do if you are anywhere in the area and it is definitely a much less traveled one compard to those in and around Acadia National Park.
